Investment Themes

The Foundation takes a thematic approach to grantmaking based on our strategic framework. The themes clarify our priorities and establish a foundation for our investments.

The Foundation practices proactive philanthropy and invites organizations to submit requests for funding. We regularly identify and cultivate relationships with non-profit organizations, education leaders, schools, and other foundations with programs and initiatives that complement our strategies.

If you have a Grant Report due or were invited to complete a Proposal and cannot access the portal, please contact proposals@calderfdn.org.

Every child deserves access to an excellent education. The Foundation looks to create this access by investing in new high-performing charter schools. We prioritize the support of early-stage charter schools and emerging networks of charter schools.

By investing in organizations that support or provide early literacy instruction grounded in the evidence-based science of reading, The Foundation intends to help literacy rates dramatically improve. Literacy is the foundation that all learning builds upon – a necessary first step for every child to engage in an excellent education.

The most rapid period of human brain development occurs from birth through age five. Looking to support both parents and children during this critical time, we invest in organizations that help parents nurture their children’s healthy development. As a result, children develop a strong foundation for success as they enter school.
